Vera Thyberg Obituary

VERA M. THYBERG, 91, of Hillsdale NY, was a devoted wife and mother that passed away at home on Sunday, August 29, 2021 after a long battle with dementia. She was the daughter of Scottish immigrants, Mabel and Edmond Green. Vera is predeceased by her husband, Edward M. Thyberg Sr. They were married in Queens, NY July 10, 1948. Vera described herself as an avid student. Early in her career she was a professional dressmaker and had her own business. She decided that she wanted to teach and became a vocational teacher in dressmaking and fashion. She always continued her education at night school and after ten years of teaching became a guidance counselor for BOCES. She was very active in VICA (vocational industrial clubs of America) and won several awards. She often ran conferences for national competitions and worked on a team that competed in parliamentary procedures. After retiring from BOCES, she traveled extensively throughout Europe and China with her husband. Vera then decided to learn to paint and took lessons for several years and began to display and sell some of her paintings in art shows. Of course, then she decided to teach art at the Claire Teague Center and taught for over twenty years. The class was called “Vera’s painting class “and it continues to this day.

Vera also belonged to the Egremont Garden Club and often held office. She loved people and would love to have dinner parties. She was a member of the North Egremont Baptist Church. She had many friends and loved her pets both dogs and cats.

She leaves behind her son and daughter, Edward and Joyce. She had three grandchildren, Edward, Heather and Lauren. There are four great grandchildren, Collin, Jaylin, Elizabeth and Klaus. She was generous with her time and efforts. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she will be sorely missed.

There are no plans for a formal service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Peck & Peck Funeral Home, Copake.

Donations in Vera’s memory are welcomed at The Community Hospice of Columbia & Greene Counties, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill, NY 12414.
