Richard A. Hill

Richard A. Hill, 74, of Pine Plains passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2023. He was born in Rhinebeck to the late Floyd and Flora (Houle) Hill. Richard served in the United States Army. When he returned home to Pine Plains, he went to work for A&J Oil, and then Doyle & Coons Oil Company as a service technician. He was always doing something to keep his hands busy including butterfly houses or fixing something.

In 1971, he joined the Pine Plains Hose Company & Rescue Squad. Marking the 3rd generation of Hill’s to serve in the fire company. Through the years he  held many offices including Assistance Chief. He quickly learned he would rather be fighting the blaze than giving orders and went back to the position of captain. He was also a driver trainer and longtime Director of the Hose Company. He also was on the committee for the annual chicken barbecue.

Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his family’s cabin in Schroon Lake. He also enjoyed spending countless hours with his longtime friends including “Chiefy”  Bob Cahill.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Marguerite (Remsburger) Hill. His devoted son and daughter in law,  Michael and Christy Hill. His favorite sidekick, Griffin Hill. His brother Douglas Hill and sister Kathy Hill. In addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service with firematic & military honors will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Pine Plains Fire Station, 7 Lake Road, Pine Plains, NY.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to The Pine Plains Fire Company, or to Hudson Valley Hospice.
