Fay W. Reed Jr.

Fay William Reed, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Geer Village in Canaan, Connecticut.  Fay was preceded in death by Margaret, his loving wife of 70 years; as well as his parents Ellsworth Fay and Mary (Hester) Reed of Groton, NY, and his son-in-law Patrick Hoysradt of Ancram, NY.

Fay was born on September 14, 1925 in Cortland, N.Y., the youngest of four sisters; Hilda (Reed) Updike, Vivian (Reed) Kratochvil, Frances (Reed) Palmer and Helen (Reed) Gillis.

Fay is a WWII veteran having proudly served in the United States Navy as a signalman aboard the USS Thuban in the South Pacific.  His experience included witnessing the US flag on Iwo Jima and the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay.

Fay was a graduate of Ithaca College and retired from a career at IBM.

Fay is survived by his loving children, Michael (Beth) Reed, Nancy (Tim) Lynch, Pam Hoysradt, Mark (Julie) Reed, Jean Harpp and Robert (Pam) Reed.  Fay is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will take place Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11AM  at the Parish of Our Lady of Hope, Copake, NY with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be to Memorial Processing, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 510 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
