Sue Near

Sue Near, 69, of Pine Plains, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2026, with her children by her side. She was born on November 20, 1956, in Sharon, Connecticut to the late Robert Burton and Ida (Vincent) Ingraham.

Sue was known for her strong work ethic and her steady presence in the Pine Plains community. She was a longtime bus driver for the Pine Plains Central School District, a role through which she became a familiar and trusted part of daily life for many local families. She later worked for many years as the office manager at Pine Plains Truck & Auto, where she continued to be valued for her dedication and reliability.

Outside of work, Sue found happiness in simple and meaningful pleasures. She enjoyed going to car shows with her husband, Bruce, and treasured the time she spent with her family. She was also an avid animal lover, with a special affection for her cats and dogs. Above all, Sue will be remembered for the love she shared with those closest to her.

Sue is survived by her children, Bruce and Angel Near; her grandchildren, Cameron, Isaac, Shyann, and Jaden Near. In addition to her siblings, Gertrude Pawlikowski, Ruth Personeus, Cindy Corey, Dale Ingraham, and Toni Glidewill. Their family bond was an important part of her life, and her memory will remain close to all who knew and loved her.

Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce Near; her daughter-in-law, Missy Near; her sisters, Leona Swart, Patty LaCourse, and Charlotte Burnwell; and her brother, Robert Ingraham.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and offer condolences on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 S Main St, Pine Plains, New York 12567. A graveside service will follow at 12:15 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains.
