Ronald “Hacky" Scheer AKA Ron, Hacky, Uncle Buck, passed away on Monday May 18 at home, with friends and family at his side.
Ron was born August 22, 1953 at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Center, New York. He was the son of the late Edith and George Scheer of Milan, NY. He graduated from Pine Plains Central School, class of 1971, and the University of Oneonta, class of 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Ron was a residential aide for Taconic DDSO, a claims examiner for Progressive Auto Insurance, a farm caretaker and the sole proprietor and craftsman for Pine Plains Paint and Paper. He was an unbeatable Scrabble player and lifelong motorcyclist.
He is survived by his children, Andrea (Daniel) VanSteenkiste, of Ray, MI and Derek Scheer of Stanfordville, New York, whom he was immensely proud of. The lights of his life were his beloved grandchildren, Amelia and Joshua VanSteenkiste.
Ron is also survived by his sister Doreen “Dodie” (Gary) Roome of Hyde Park, New York, two other siblings, his partner Susan Cassinelli of Beacon, New York, as well as his beloved cousins and some of the most amazing friends anyone could ever have. All of them were true brothers that supported him in the final weeks of his life.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and offer condolences on Friday, May 22, 2026 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains, New York.
