Peter J. Nowak

Peter J. Nowak, 80, of Hillsdale, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026 at St. Peter’s Hospital. He was born on October 17, 1945 in Hamerau, Germany. The son of Stanley and Katharina (Hyrsiewicz) Nowak. Peter enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and served proudly until 1982. On November 9, 1974, in Catskill he married Mary Ann Ptaszek. They settled in Hillsdale on a beautiful property surrounded by fields and woods that provided peace and stunning sunrises and sunsets that they enjoyed together. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage until her passing in September of 2025.

Peter worked for the New York State Labor Department, specifically in the farm services division until his retirement. Having grown up on his family’s farm his dedication to the land was a life long passion. He enjoyed spending time on his tractors working the land and being out doors. His gregarious nature and dedication to helping those in need will be surely be missed. He was also an active and dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Parish in Copake Falls.

Peter will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted daughter, Amanda Nowak and son, Peter Nowak Jr. He also leaves behind a grandson, Kaden Nowak; his three sisters, one brother and his beloved dog, Rosie.

Services were held privately for the family in keeping with Peter's wishes. Inurnment will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery.
