Copake, NY

Patricia Lindsay Shakshober, 95, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, at her home in Geer Lodge, Canaan, CT. She was born on October 15, 1930, to Stuart and Mary Elizabeth (Hart) Lindsay in Westwood, New Jersey.

Pat graduated from Westwood High School and went on to attend St. Lawrence University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. While there she met the love of her life John H. Shakshober. Pat and “Jack” were married in 1951 and celebrated 68 years of loving marriage before Jack passed away in 2019. Following their wedding they moved to Boston Corner, NY where they started a farming and trucking business with Jack’s parents. There, they raised a bustling family of six children. In addition to raising children and life on the farm, Pat went on to graduate school, earning a Masters of Library Science from SUNY Albany. She was the Elementary and Middle School librarian at Taconic Hills School District in the Roeliff Jansen building for 20 years. She not only taught children a love of reading but embraced all the advances in growing multimedia technology.

In the early 70’s Jack moved on from farming and trucking, and he and Pat built a 9-hole golf course in their front yard. Pat handled bookkeeping and publicity as well as managing the pro-shop desk for over 40 years. Undermountain Golf Course celebrated 50 years in business this pastsummer. Pat was a founding member of the Undermountain Twilight Swingers Ladies Golf League; she volunteered with the American CancerSociety, delivered Meals on Wheels for seniors in the community, was a trustee of the Roeliff Jansen Community Library, and was a parishioner ofSt John’s in the Wilderness Episcopal church in Copake Falls. An avid reader, Pat was rarely seen without a book nearby, always ready to read whenever she found a quiet moment. She and Jack spent many memorable winters in their seasonal home in Venice FL. In her retirement she would humbly state that raising children was her greatest talent.

Pat is survived by her children, daughter Caryl Shakshober, Venice FL; daughter Susan Shakshober (David Reeder), Arlington, TX; son Stuart M. Shakshober (Marta), Churchtown, NY; daughter Patricia MacArthur (John); and son D. John Shakshober (Colleen), Townsend MA.
