Lucille G. Jordan

Lucille G. Jordan, 106, of Poughkeepsie, New York passed away on June 29, 2025. She was born in New York City on January 15, 1919, to Louis Albert Girod and Marie Louise Bayen. She graduated from Congers High School and then New York University in 1940, majoring in French. Lucille married Frederick “Fritz” Jordan on March 28, 1948, in Pine Plains, New York. Fritz, renowned 40-year champion coach of Arlington High School and a major league scout, predeceased her in 1993.

Lucille worked for a variety of organizations during the World War II era including New York State at Bear Mountain State Park and the British Government in New York City. She started a career teaching French at Spring Valley High School, then at Arlington High School, Poughkeepsie, New York where she met her husband, Fritz. While raising her family, Lucille volunteered to organize the Taconic Region PTA and was a constant presence in support of the Arlington sports teams. Affectionately called ‘Mother of Arlington Sports,’ Lucille was the official scorekeeper for the football, basketball, and baseball teams and was inducted in 2019 at age 100 into the Arlington High School Sports Wall of Fame.

Lucille’s interests included ice skating, golf, tap dancing, Irish knitting, crewel embroidering, and designing clothing. She was a seamstress, pianist, painter, and French cook, each done with great skill. She knew all the stats of the New York Yankees, visited all three Yankee stadiums, and treasured her commemorative Yankee World Series ring.

Lucille was frequently asked to give the secret for her longevity and always attributed it to good French genes and a diet of homegrown food as a child. She also admitted to a fondness for red wine and chocolate.

Lucille is survived by her two daughters, Denise Louise Jordan Finley (husband Matt) of Pine Plains and Diamond Point, New York; and Jeannine Julia Jordan of Poughkeepsie, New York. She leaves three grandchildren, Julia F. Mosca (Lawrence) of Rocky River, Ohio; Jordan A. Finley (Devon) of Los Angeles; and Susan E. Finley of Los Angeles; and two great-grandchildren, Josephine Mosca and Ruby Finley. Lucille is also survived by her sister, Alberta Fullem (103), and several nieces and nephews and their children.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Peck & Peck Funeral Home in Pine Plains. Lucille will be buried in the Jordan family plot at Evergreen Cemetery.
