It is with heavy hearts that we share the peaceful passing of Laurel Baird Clapp, on August 23, 2026. She was born to Blanche and G. Stanley Baird of Suffern, N.Y., on February 3, 1940.
Loving wife of the late Richard Emerson Clapp, mother to Brian Emerson Clapp, Rebecca (Ron) Jacobsen, and two angels born sleeping. She was the youngest of three sisters (Dorry Norris and Bette Gallup)
Growing up in Rockland County, She spoke fondly of her time at Girl Scout camp as a child, and her summers vacations at Lookout Point in Harpswell, Maine with her parents. Her grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy; she was a devoted grandmother to Michael (Allyson) Jacobsen of Preston, MD, Erin(Kyle) Blackburn of Red Hook, NY, and Hannah Clapp. Nothing made her smile more than her great grandchildren, Graham, Turner & Wells Jacobsen, and Emery and Noelle Blackburn.
For many years, she was a faithful parishioner, Sunday school teacher, & choir member at the West Copake Reformed Church. She leaned on her faith for strength and hope. She enjoyed volunteering at the Roe Jan library, and always looked forward to helping prepare Thanksgiving baskets for the community around the holidays. Along with her family, she hosted dozens of foreign exchange students over decades at Sunny Mead Farm. She was also a loyal UConn girls basketball fan.
In more recent years, she enjoyed riding her bicycle, throwing bocce, and playing cards at her home at Holiday Park, North Port, Fl with her good friends, Joyce and Lucy.
Laurel was a proud anatomical donor. Internment will be held privately at the Hillsdale Rural Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be forwarded to West Copake Reformed Church, 2692 County Route 7, Copake, NY 12516-1425
