Kathryn "Kit" Koerner

Kathryn "Kit" Pell Koerner, 73, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished traditions. Born on March 22, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Frank and Kathryn Pell, Kit spent her childhood in Brooklyn and Long Island before moving to Pleasantville, New York, where she graduated from high school.

Determined and passionate about serving others, Kit earned her degree from Mount St. Mary’s College in Newburgh, New York. She dedicated 25 years of her life as a compassionate house manager for the State of New York at Taconic DDSO, caring deeply for those she served before her well-earned retirement.

In 1984, Kit married, Michael Koerner, in Pine Plains, New York, building a life filled with family and laughter. Kit was a woman of many talents and vibrant passions. She was an avid seamstress, an enthusiastic New York Yankees fan, and a master baker with a rock n roll heart. Nothing brought her more joy than Christmas, when she would fill her home with warmth and bake mountains of delicious holiday cookies to share with everyone she loved.

Above all, Kit’s greatest pride and happiness came from her family. Her grandchildren were her ultimate reason for living and the source of her purest joy; being their grandmother was the true center of her heart.Kit is survived by her husband, Michael; her stepchildren, Michael and Rachel Koerner and Casey Koerner Swift; and her five beloved grandchildren: Daniel James, Reghan Anderson, Hayden Josephine, Michael Asencio, and Nora Margaret. She is reunited in heaven with her precious granddaughter, Grace Lennon. 

A private celebration of Kit’s life will be held with family. 

In lieu of flowers, honor Kit’s memory by making a donation to The Animal Farm Foundation in Stanfordville, NY or cheering for her beloved Yankees in the post season.
