Kathleen Osofsky

Kathleen “Cathy” (Freney) Osofsky lived a life deeply rooted in family, resilience, and community. She shared more than five decades with her husband, Ronald “Ronny” Osofsky, on the land where they raised their children and built a legacy that continues. A local girl at heart, Cathy married Ronny in 1971, beginning a partnership grounded in love, hard work, and a shared commitment to family and her newly discovered farm life.

Together, Cathy and Ronny raised their three children, Jonathan, Carey, and Daniel—while navigating the demanding rhythms of dairy farming and entrepreneurship. Cathy’s steady presence was central to the Osofsky household, providing warmth, strength, and unwavering support as both the family and Ronnybrook Farm Dairy grew. Their farmhouse was not only a place of work, but also a gathering place—filled with connection, hospitality, enduring memories, and Cathy’s distinctive design style.

Cathy grew up in Pine Plains, New York, with her sisters—collectively and affectionately known as the Freney girls. Alongside their father, Jack, they were loved and guided by their mother, Harriett, as well as Aunt Natalie “Da,” Aunt Mary, Aunt Peggy, and family friend Norma. These women had a strong and lasting influence on the girls. Through Aunt Da, the Freney girls spent many summer and fall days on Block Island, a tradition Cathy and Ronny later continued with their own family. Some of Cathy’s happiest times were spent there with her children, grandchildren, and beloved family dogs, enjoying the island together.

The family faced many challenges over the years, including significant health challenges for Cathy herself. Her doctor once described her as a “one in a million” patient—living with terminal cancer for more than seven years. Through times of uncertainty, her family, extended family, and longtime friends continued to show up for her, surrounding her with love and reminding her just how deeply she was cherished.

Above all, Cathy treasured her roles as a wife, mother, Nana, and motherinlaw. She and Ronny delighted in their grandchildren—Grace Alberg, and Tatum, Jack, and Ronan Osofsky—taking great joy in watching their family grow. Cathy often looked around at her loved ones and joyfully exclaimed that “her cup runneth over,” grateful for the fullness of her life.

After losing Ronny in 2022 and as her illness progressed, Daniel and his family moved into the farmhouse with her. The house once again became full of daily life and laughter, serving as the hub for family gatherings so Cathy could remain surrounded by those she loved most. On September 14, 2026, Cathy passed away peacefully at home, the place she and Ronny transformed into the heart of their family for more than five decades. Her devotion to those she loved was reflected in a lifetime of showing up, caring deeply, and creating a home where everyone felt welcome and loved.

Cathy is survived by her daughter, Carey (Brian) Alberg; her sons, Daniel (Jennifer) and Jonathan Osofsky; her grandchildren; her beloved sisters, Ann (Curtis) Simmons and Natalie (Zipp) Guernsey; and her brothers and sistersinlaw Rick (Jean) Osofsky, Sid (Cindy) Osofsky, Freda (Osofsky) Sanderson, and Joan Osofsky, along with her cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and their growing families. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Patricia Hurley, Dylan Widjiono, Mary Shook, Melinda Dorn, and Mikaela Blackburn who cared for Cathy with kindness, laughter, and dignity. We are also deeply grateful to the staff of Hudson Valley Hospice

In honor of Cathy’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, an organization she admired; the Ronald Osofsky Memorial Fund, created after his passing to give back to the agricultural community and to support families facing lifechanging health issues requiring organ donation, at 229 Fordham Road, Valatie, NY 12184; or to the charity of one’s choice. A private celebration of her life will be held.
