Karen A. Brooks

Karen A. Brooks, 76, of Pine Plains, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at The Pines at Catskill. Karen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister whose life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family, her passion for music, and her dedication to education. She was born on January 5, 1950, in Cobleskill, New York and was the daughter of the late Herman and Helen Mattice. She obtained her master’s degree from SUNY New Paltz, reflecting her lifelong commitment to education and personal growth.

Karen's career began as a music teacher in the Pine Plains Central School District, later spending time at Webetuck and Highland Schools. Her love for music extended beyond the classroom; she played the organ at both St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church and the Pine Plains Methodist Church, enriching the spiritual lives of many through her melodies. In her professional journey, Karen transitioned to a role as a tax auditor for New York State Tax & Finance, where she dedicated 17 years of service until her retirement.

Outside of her professional commitments, Karen found great joy in raising goats for over 30 years, knitting, and sharing her love of music. Her grandchildren, Hunter Corrado and Emily Brooks, held a special place in her heart, and she relished every moment spent with them.

Karen is survived by her children, Howard Brooks, Kevin Brooks, John Rockafellow III, Anita Corrado, Gordon Brooks, and Audrey Brooks. She is also remembered fondly by her two brothers, Shane and David Mattice.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and offer condolences on Friday, March 13, 2026 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains, New York. Followed by a short prayer service. Interment will take place privately in East Worcester, New York.
