Joseph P. McCluskey Jr.

Joseph P. McCluskey Jr., a native of Queens and a long-time resident of Pine Plains, passed away peacefully yet unexpectedly at his home on July 26, 2025. Born on November 2, 1954, in New York City, to the late Joseph P. McCluskey Sr. and Anne E. (Conger) McCluskey, he graduated from the State University of New York at Syracuse with a degree in Environmental Sciences and Forestry. Joseph worked many years for Helmsley Spear in New York City. Throughout his successful career, Joseph distinguished himself in the realm of commercial real estate, making significant contributions to the industry while establishing lasting relationships with his colleagues and clients alike. His keen eye for architecture and the environment was one of his outstanding talents; he had an extraordinary capacity to date a house or a tree simply by examining it. This passion for architecture paralleled his profound love for both New York City and the community of Pine Plains, which he embraced as his true homes.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Joseph was a history buff, both national and local. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed solace in nature, relishing the beauty of the world around him. Joseph loved to travel, embarking on adventures that included memorable trips to Europe, Alaska and Japan, as well as cherished vacations in St. Barts.

Joseph dedicated his life to both his career and his passions, leaving behind a legacy and a generosity that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Joseph is survived by his loving partner of 38 years, Michael Montagna, his siblings, Mary (Eric Dumas) Cotard, James McCluskey, Robert McCluskey, Richard (Berna) McCluskey, Susan (Keith) Jaeger, and Martin (Kathleen) McCluskey. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Terence McElroy, as well as four nieces, eight nephews, and three great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Kathleen McElroy, and sister-in-law, Mia McCluskey.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and offer condolences on August 1, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains, NY 12567. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on August 2, 2025 from St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Pine Plains. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains.
