James C. Miller, 67, of Pine Plains, known to many simply as Jim Ba, died on August 29, 2026, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. He was born on July 23, 1959, in Sharon, Connecticut to the late Homer and Helen (Pelkey) Miller. He attended Pine Plains Central School before entering the workforce.
Jim Ba built a life rooted in work, community, and the relationships he treasured. For many years, he worked at Camp Pontiac in West Copake. He also worked for the Wassaic school before later going to work for David Boice Home Lawn Care. In his younger years, he was a bartender at the Ancram Tavern, a role that suited his easy connection with people and place.
He was a longtime member of the Ancram Fire Department, reflecting his commitment to his community. An avid pool player, he was a member of the Hudson Valley American Pool Association, where he traveled to play in different leagues. He also enjoyed traveling with Lois, going to tag sales, and following NASCAR.
Jim Ba is survived by his companion of more than 40 years, Lois Bogue, with whom he shared a lasting and important part of his life. He is also survived by his son and daughter in law, Jaime & Crystal Miller. His grandchildren, Erika & Jay Miller. Part of the family he shared with Lois included her children, Corina, Carol, and Matthew. He also leaves his brothers, Mike Miller of Pine Plains, and John Miller of Clinton, Massachusetts; and his sisters, Sally Watchtel of Washington, Rosie Gansowski of Ancram, and Joann Hoyte of Newcomb Falls, New York. In addition to several nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and by his sisters, Annie Miller, Stella Slater, and Betty Slater.
A time to gather, share memories and offer condolences will be held on September 10, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains, New York. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor William Mayhew. There will be a Celebration of Jim Ba’s life on September 19, 2026 from 12:00 till 4:00 p.m. at the Ancram Fire Department.
