Herman A. Haire Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with his family by his side. Born on January 11,1946 in Poughkeepsie, New York, the son of the late Herman and Marjorie (Lown) Haire Sr.
After graduating from Pine Plains High School, Herman enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from April 25, 1965 to April 3, 1968. After serving for 3 years, Herman came home to help his mother with his 6 younger siblings.
On October 5, 1969 Herman Married Isabel "Tuddie" Horton. They shared 56 wonderful years together raising their family in Pine Plains.Herman held many titles over the years, from Chief of the Pine Plains Fire Department, Fire Commissioner, Chief of the Pine Plains Police Department and Communications Specialist for the New York State Police. When Herman wasn't working, he could often be found at the Fire House setting up for bingo (Someone had to make sure the tables were all straight) or most recently, standing on his deck at Waubeeka Family Campground (making sure everyone was following the rules).
Herman is survived by his loving wife Tuddie, Daughter Melissa (Eddie) Weingaertner, with whom he resided in Rhinebeck, son Damon (Amy) Haire of Pine Plains, grandchildren Morgan (Adam) Fitzpatrick, Keri (Tylar) Conley and Jaden Weingaertner all of Rhinebeck, Travis (Alyssa) Hengen, Faith Haire and Austin Haire all of Pine Plains. Great-grandchildren Easton and Hunter Fitzpatrick, Jayce Conley, Miley Hengen and baby Ellie who is due in April. Brother James (Jane) Haire and 3 sisters, JoAnn (Bobby) Lamont, Dorothy Simmons and Sue Ellen (Dave) Doherty, along with many nieces, nephews and countless friends who became family. Especially all of his neighbors and staff at Camp Waubeeka, who were his extended family and Tom (Tink) McGee who was like a son to Herman.
Herman was predeceased by a son Alfred Charles, a brother Harold Haire and a sister Linda Churton.
Calling hours will be from 11:00am to 2:00pm, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the day Herman would have been turning 80. There will be a firematic ceremony conducted by the Pine Plains Hose Company at 2:00pm. All services will be held at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains, NY.
