Henry F. Rothvoss Jr., 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Ancramdale, NY on June 26, 2026. Born on November 11, 1948, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Henry and Rosalie (Shook) Rothvoss.
Henry’s life reflected a deep-rooted connection to the land and a dedication to his family and community. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm, where he learned the value of hard work from a young age. This upbringing set the tone for a lifetime marked by industriousness, initiative, and a willingness to invest himself fully into every endeavor. In 1976, recognizing both his love of music and his community spirit, Henry started the Berkshire Mountain Bluegrass Festival right on the family farm—a testament to his vision and love for bringing people together.
In 1983, the Rothvoss family made the significant decision to sell off the dairy cows, marking the end of an era. Undeterred, Henry forged a new path for himself by founding his own excavation company. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to expand into well drilling, further establishing his reputation for reliability and hard work. Later, he joined the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 137, where he dedicated his skills as an operating engineer and eventually retired.
Outside of his work, he was an avid hunter and golfer, finding peace and excitement in the great outdoors and on the greens. He also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casinos, embracing life’s small pleasures with enthusiasm and good humor.
Henry is survived by his loving daughter Brenda and her husband Keith Neer; his sons Henry Rothvoss III and his longtime companion, Danielle Maltby and Clayton Rothvoss. He was the cherished grandfather of Brandon, Kody, Dustin Neer, Matthew, Luke, Maylea, and Rachel Rothvoss. Henry adored his great-grandchildren Kayden, Korbin, and Arianna, who brought immeasurable joy to his later years. He is also survived by his sister Teri Jensen, his brother Daniel Rothvoss, and his loyal friend Tim Schaffer.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Peck & Peck Funeral Homes. In keeping with Henry’s wishes no formal services will be held.
