George Rosenquist, 98, of Grand Island, Florida passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025 at CornerStone Hospice. He was born on April 27, 1926 in Hillsdale, New York and was the son of Gustav and Irene (Helenius) Rosenquist. He enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 in 1943 and served honorably until 1947. He worked at IBM as a Sr. Design Engineer before going to work for himself as a machinist. Having been a local resident for many years he was active in the Pine Plains Lions Club and was the president when the new pavilion was dedicated. He also served as a councilman for the town of Gallatin and was very active prior to moving to Florida. After moving to Florida, he was not one to sit idle. He joined the local volunteer fire company and also served as the president of the homeowners association. An avid golfer, who enjoyed many rounds with family and friends. Above all, he was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. Which he had until the day he passed.
George is survived by his children Dorothy Hedges (Bill Jr.), Richard (Elissa) Rosenquist and Suzan Bartolomeo; Grand children Michael & Bryan Hedges, Matthew Bartolomeo and Corina Klay; and Great GrandChildren Gabriel & Cody Hedges, Caitlin & Michael Klay, Jocelyn & Luke Bartolomeo. Predeceased by loving wife Dorothy “Deanie” Rosenquist, brother Gustaf Ewald Rosenquist and son in-law Peter Bartolomeo.
Graveside services with full military honors were held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains.
