George P. Lefcheck

George Lefcheck, 81, of Pine Plains NY, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026. George was born in Hartford, CT, and raised in New Britain, CT—the middle of 5 children to (deceased) Mary (Kron) and Michael. George is also predeceased by his brother, Michael, and sister, Eileen (Schmidt), and is survived by Betty (Brumberg) and Stephan.

After serving in the Navy, George earned a trade license with Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 777. He rose to leadership in his short career working as foreman on many of the booming industrial buildings of the 1970s and 80s including schools, hospitals, treatment plants, and the nuclear power station. He and Claudia (Collins) raised three children: Scott (Andrea Fancher), Tracy (Brian McConnell), and Coreen (Joe Mojica). He was extremely proud of the generous and kind people they became. He was especially proud of his grandchildren—Nikoletta Herman, Gavin and Maeve McConnell. George had a special relationship with his partner Diane’s grandson Jeremiah, who was like a second son. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Oaklynne and Marshall. George also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

George learned his work ethic, love of farming, and finding joy in life from his uncle George Kron (deceased). Farming was a happy pastime from an early age with a small homestead in Torrington, CT, which eventually led to haying and raising Clydesdales in Norfolk, CT and New York. He fulfilled a dream to buy acreage and build a log house in Norfolk by taking on additional jobs as a chimney sweep and logger. This home was one of his greatest accomplishments and one he was most proud of. George became permanently disabled by an impaired driver when he was only 41, ending his career. Despite his limitations, he continued to pursue his dreams and eventually bought a farm in Pine Plains, NY, for his Clydesdales with his partner of 25 years, Diane. George enjoyed being involved with Draft Horse associations and mentoring young farmers in 4H. He loved conversation and community, especially his morning ritual of meeting with the guys in town for coffee. George was known for his generosity to friends and neighbors and will be greatly missed by all.

 Services in New York will be at Peck and Peck Funeral Homes, 7749 S. Main Street, Pine Plains on August 18, 2026 with calling hours from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Services in Connecticut will be determined by the family and will be updated here. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Gentle Giants draft horse rescue, where we hope his beloved Clydesdales, Archie and Maggie, will spend the rest of their days.
