Peck and Harriet Ackley Peck, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, Gary’s life was marked by a commitment to his family, friends, service to the community, and a passion for the outdoors.

Gary’s journey began in his beloved hometown of Copake, NY surrounded by deep family roots and tradition. He attended Roeliff Jansen High School, before he answered the call to serve his country. From 1960 to 1962, he honorably served with the United States Army, demonstrating the same dedication and integrity that would define much of his life.

Gary’s professional career was notably tied to Taconic Telephone, where he held many positions including as a lineman, and through hard work and determination, ascended to serve on the board of directors. His professional accomplishments were matched by his commitment to volunteerism and community service. For 33 years, he served faithfully on the Catamount Ski Patrol and was an integral part of the Community Rescue Squad for many years and serving as President for 3 years, exemplifying a profound sense of responsibility and care for those around him.

A lifelong outdoorsman, Gary cherished the natural world. He grew up spending time on his family’s farm, Bull Spring Farm in Copake, where he nurtured his love for horses and competed with them in various competitions. An avid hunter, antique gun collector and an enthusiast of Harley Davidson motorcycles, Gary’s adventurous spirit was well-known among his family and friends. His extensive collection of snowshoes and sleighbells attest to his love for winter pursuits.

One of Gary’s most treasured places was Camp Ruff-It on Copake Lake, a beloved family retreat now in its third generation. There, he delighted in water skiing, sailing, and savoring the tranquility of lake life. Alongside his wife Debbie, he enjoyed traveling to numerous beach destinations including Fire Island, Long Beach Island, and for the past decade, Sunset Beach Island in North Carolina.

Gary leaves behind his wife of 40 years, Deborah (Byer); two sons, Adam Peck and his fiancé Lynn Hart and Brian Peck, and his fiancé Suzanne Fregien. Two grandsons, Aaron and Tyler Peck.
