Fannie Jones, age 80, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at 2:18 a.m at Columbia Memorial Hospital, in Hudson. Fannie was born on March 7, 1946, in Rhinebeck to her mother, Pauline Hosier, and her father, James Lawrence. She grew up alongside her siblings, Edith Rodegerdts, Cora “Dolly” Richardson, and Ernie “Buddy” Lawrence.
Fannie lived a life defined by kindness, devotion, and quiet strength. A truly selfless woman, she sacrificed much of her own time and comfort to care for others. Her greatest joy came from the people and animals around her, and she gave freely of her love to both. She had a deep compassion for animals and was known for taking in strays, feeding birds, and gently nursing sick animals back to health. Her caring nature extended to every creature that crossed her path.
Fannie was a dedicated homemaker and a loving mother who devoted her life to raising her children and later helping care for many of their children as well. Her home was a place of warmth, guidance, and unconditional love. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Clifford Jones Sr., who preceded her in death on April 3, 2013. Together they built a life centered around family, care, and commitment.
Though Fannie rarely traveled far from home and preferred the comfort of familiar places, she found happiness in life’s simple moments and in the people she loved most. She never saw the ocean, yet she found all the joy she needed in the family and life she built around her. Fannie’s life was one of quiet sacrifice, compassion, and enduring love. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured and in the many lives she touched through her kindness.
She is survived by her steadfast and caring partner, Michael Fischer; her loving children, Pauline McLain, Fannie Gubler, Clifford Jones Jr., Audrey Quenneville, Edith Crosby, Tricia Mussmacher, Drew Jones, and John Jones; and her sisters-in-law, Georgia Miles, Robin Negri, and Debbie Chamberlain. She also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, along with many other family members who loved her dearly.
She was predeceased by her son, George Jones, and her great-grandson, Caleb Dier.
Fannie will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
In tribute to Fannie’s lifelong love for animals, donations may be made to your local humane society.
