Doris Griffin, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Home at Barnwell in Valatie, New York. She was born on March 14, 1929 in Kensington, Connecticut to Giovanni Cornali and Emilia (Panciera) Cornali from Forno Di Zoldo, Italy who emigrated from Italy to Kensington, CT. in 1914 and 1915 respectively where they married in 1916.
Doris Cornali married Charles Henry Johnson from New Britain, Connecticut on June 4, 1948. Doris and Charles Johnson had one daughter, Doris Ann Johnson on January 3, 1949. Doris, Charlie and their daughter moved to West Copake, New York in 1954. Doris’s first husband, Charles H. Johnson died on April 16th 1986.
Doris married Karl Lasher Griffin, her soul mate and second husband, on July 27th 1991 at the Copake Grange Hall. Doris and Karl enjoyed many years traveling to Cape Cod and to Williston, Florida where they owned a second residence. Karl Lasher Griffin died on April 17th, 2008.
Doris and Karl Griffin were avid golfers with both hitting hole-in-ones at Undermountain Golf Course in league play. Doris was a wonderful acrylic artist painting for family, friends and local service groups like Animal Kind. Doris Griffin was an outstanding cook and enjoyed sharing her recipes. She was an avid cat lover and rescued cats in Copake and East Chatham, New York where she lived for ten years.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Doris Gearing, and her husband Wayne, two grandsons: Michael and Ami (Darrow) Gearing with great grandchildren Andrew and Megan; David and Mary (Baker) Gearing with great grandchildren Christianna and Brandon. Also by her first marriage and second marriages, many step-children, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family, friends and others whose lives were touched by her many years are invited to the Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 8063 Route 22, Copake, New York from 10:00 AM to Noon (12:00) on Friday, November 7th, 2025. A funeral service will begin at Noon with interment in the St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Copake Falls, New York. All are welcome to reminisce, grieve and support each other.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family encourages donations to Animal Kind in Doris’ name.
