Daniele Casazza Braham

Captain Daniele Casazza Braham, USN, 47, of Temecula, California, passed away on July 19, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Daniele embodied both beauty and grace. She was witty, fun, and kind, compassionate and generous, brilliant and humble. Daniele packed more life into her way-too-short 47 years than most would think possible. She was an amazing wife, mother, extraordinary friend, a fierce advocate, and a brilliant professional. Her greatest joy in life was being a steadfast partner to Luke and a devoted mother to her children, Joseph, Jacoby, and Giuliana. Daniele was proud of the family she and Luke built together; she was the anchor of her family, possessing the quiet strength, resolve, and unrelenting love that allowed them to flourish as they overcame any challenge. She devoted her time to her family and loved being at the ballfield with the kids, cheering on their games, coaching her daughter's basketball team, and supporting the kids in everything they attempted. There was nothing more important to Daniele than family, and she showed this through her unconditional love for her children, Luke, her parents and siblings, as well as her aunt, uncles, cousins, and her nieces and nephews. She always loved with a love greater than herself, and this was a gift to each person she encountered. Daniele possessed a unique ability to connect with anyone and to make everyone feel welcome. She always saw the best in everyone, genuinely listened, met people where they were, and always showed up for them when they needed her. While her favorite place in the world was home with her family, she also loved to travel. She had many adventurous family trips: taking the kids off-roading up a mountain with her brother, though it turns out she was afraid of heights, watching her niece play basketball in Spain and introducing her children to the fine art of the Prado Museum, RV'ing across New Zealand for two weeks swimming in glacial waters, and visiting family in Ireland and New York.

Daniele was born on January 22, 1979, to Jane Napoli Casazza and Edward Casazza, Jr. in Sharon, CT. She grew up in Pine Plains, NY, where she graduated from Stissing Mountain High School with the class of 1997. After high school, Daniele chose a path of service to her country and others. She received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, graduating in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.

She commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy, serving on the USS Oak Hill (LSD-51) and the USS Underwood (FFG-36), making multiple deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following her deployments, Daniele became a pioneering member of the US Navy's newly formed Human Resources (HR) community. After transitioning to the HR community, Daniele graduated from the U.S. Naval War College's College of Naval Warfare with a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies in 2008. Along with her successes and promotions came relocations from the Navy.

The Navy took her to Virginia, Florida, Rhode Island, and Hawaii, where her own family began with the birth of Joseph. While in Hawaii, she was selected to work for Commander, US Pacific Fleet (COMPACFLT), followed by Commander, US Pacific Command (PACOM). Daniele credited these assignments working directly for Admiral Willard as the most impactful of her career. It helped shape who she was as an officer, as a leader, and most importantly as a person. She genuinely enjoyed the human element of the Navy and loved connecting personally with those she led and worked with, developing many long-lasting relationships. The Navy also fed her love of travel. It took her across the world to the Arabian Gulf, to Japan following the 2011 Tsunami, to Nepal and the heights of Mt Everest, to the plains of Mongolia, and to the Australian outback, just to name a few.

The Navy eventually took Daniele and her family back to Florida, where her family grew again with the birth of Jacoby. It also allowed Daniele to reconnect and live near family in Florida after a long time in Hawaii. The Navy next took her to Virginia and the Pentagon. While living and working in Virginia, Giuliana was born, completing her family. After 15 years in the Navy of distant duty stations, Daniele and her family reunited with family in Virginia and her family in Pine Plains, NY. She became a regular at her niece's sports games. She took great joy in taking her family to NY to see where she grew up and visit her sister Jenny's family, her parents, and aunts and uncles. Though she held extremely demanding jobs in the Navy, she never missed an opportunity to reinforce the importance of family to her children, and she found such happiness in being present for all her nieces and nephews' life events. After years of excelling in the most demanding jobs, her time working in Washington, DC culminated with working directly for the Chief of Naval Operations. Daniele took her final set of Navy orders with the Chief of Naval Air Forces in California, capstoning an extraordinary career with a promotion to Captain (O6), and settling in Temecula, California, near her brother's family, to cherish time with her family. Captain Braham had a distinguished Naval career and was a combat veteran. She had a diverse background in budgeting and personnel resourcing, and extensive experience across the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV), joint military experience at PACOM and Special Operations Command (SOCOM), PACFLT, and Navy Personnel Command (NPC). During her career, she earned a Legion of Merit award, four Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and one Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Daniele is survived by her husband, Luke Braham, and their three children, Joseph (2012), Jacoby (2015), and Giuliana (2018); her mother, Jane Napoli Casazza; her father, Edward Casazza, Jr.; her sister, Jennifer (John) Blackburn; brother, Edward (Tiffany) Casazza; her parents-in-law Marty and Marian Braham; sisters-in-law Rachel Braham, Sarah (Peter) Geiger, Elizabeth (Shah) Alston; brother-in-law John (Laura) Braham; nieces and nephews: Tessa & Luke Blackburn, Annalise & Edward Casazza, Joe, Maggie, Annie, & Patrick Geiger, Hope & Faith Alston, Madeleine, John Paul, and Mary Claire Braham. Daniele is also survived by her aunt and uncles, Moretta & Matty Salvia, Stephen Casazza, and cousins Joey Salvia (Matthew, Brandon, and Brooke), Kent Casazza, Tess Gandolfo, Caroline Casazza, Stephanie Embry, Louisa Grassi Kaestle, and David Kaestle. Daniele is predeceased by her grandparents, Carl & Moretta McKown Napoli, and Tes & Ed Casazza, and her uncle, Charlie Napoli.

Daniele will be buried at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, with full military honors. In conjunction with the burial at Arlington National Cemetery, a visitation will be held at Peck and Peck Funeral Home, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pine Plains, NY (date and time to be determined).
