Carolyn J. Hicks, 91, peacefully passed away Wednesday June 17, 2026 with her family by her side. She grew up on a farm in Ancramdale, NY, nestled between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the Hudson River, and graduated from Roeliff Jansen High School in 1952. She lived in Saratoga Springs, NY for many years before relocating to Shelbyville, KY in 2012 to be near family. Carolyn was an Episcopalian, attending the Church of St. John in the Wilderness in Copake Falls, NY and becoming very involved with St. James Episcopal Church in Shelbyville, KY. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with dogs and all other living critters, writing, drawing, genealogy, cooking, gardening, and helping others such as all her time working on food pantry collections and shopping with St. James Episcopal Church. She worked in a variety of fields, including automotive repair with her father in early years, bookkeeper, groomer at the Saratoga Harness Track, and nursing after becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She was preceded in death by her parents, Charolotte Ness Hicks and Clay W. Hicks; her dear sister Roberta Hicks Ashe; her life partner Jim Fuller; and her beloved husky Teeka. She is survived by her first cousin Charles (Kay) Ness of San Antonio, TX; niece Alison (Bill) Stemler, of Shelbyville, KY; nephew, Michael (Meredith Weir) Ashe of Shelbyville, KY; two great nieces Hannah Stemler and Hallie (Tyler) Collard; and extended family John (Ann) Brusie, Nita (William) Radtke, and Kim (Lazaro) Rios.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Church of St. John in the Wilderness, 261 NY-344, Copake Falls, NY. Interment will follow in St. John in the Wilderness Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 180, Copake Falls, NY 12517 or to St. James Episcopal Church, PO Box 166, Shelbyville, KY 40066. 

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at the Bedford Springs Health and Rehabilitation facility for their care and love of Carolyn.
