Ancramdale, NY – Carolyn Huntress Chadbourne Barton, 100, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 5th 2017 at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan, CT.

She was born on June 3, 1917 in Boston, MA the daughter of Walter E. Chadbourne and Mary (Foley) Chadbourne Fox and step daughter of Arthur Fox.

Mrs. Barton was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Academic School in Rockville Center, NY and the College of New Rochelle.

Mrs. Barton was a retired special education teacher with Dutchess County BOCES. She also taught at Webutuck Elementary School in Amenia, NY and prior to that at Cardinal Hayes Homes in Millbrook, NY.

She is a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, the Roeliff Jansen Historical Society and past president of the Pine Plains Central School Board.

On October 12, 1940 in Copake Falls, NY, Carolyn married the love of her life Kenneth L. Barton. He predeceased her on January 21, 1996. She was also pre-deceased by a brother, Arthur Fox; a sister Elinor Mettler; a grandson Fred Barton and a great grandson, Jacob Barton.

Survivors include her children, a daughter, Betty B. Podris, five sons, Kenneth Fred Barton, Gerald C. Barton, Robert A. Barton, Richard L. Barton and Walter E. Barton; seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.

Calling hours are Friday, September 8th, from 4 to 7 PM, at Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Rte. 22 Copake, NY 12516.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 AM on Saturday, September 9th, from Our Lady of Hope Parish, 8074, Rte. 22 Copake, Falls, NY with Rev. George Brennan officiating.

Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Church Parish8074 NY-22 Copake Falls, NY 2517.
