Almeda Pearl DeGrosso Nelson, 85, of Hillsdale, NY, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center.
She was born on January 2, 1937 in Hudson, to Frances and William DeGrosso.
Almeda graduated from Roeliff Jansen Central Schools in 1955. In the same year on October 8th, she married Brandt Nelson and together they enjoyed 67 years of marriage.
Almeda worked for many years at Roe Jan and later for Taconic Hills Central School as a cook before becoming a bus monitor. She taught Sunday School for many years at the Hillsdale Methodist Church where she was a longtime member. She loved to be around people and loved to vacation with her husband enjoying many cruises and road trips. She was an avid pet lover. Of all the holidays, Christmas was her favorite. As this was when she would host Christmas morning breakfast for all of her family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and was a foster parent to many children, some who still came to visit her. She was a nanny to not only her family members but to the various friends of her grandchildren as well.
Almeda is survived by her husband Brandt, her daughter, Tina Lee Nelson-Dellea and her husband Paul, Her sons Thompson Nelson, John Nelson and partner Sarah Spencer. Her grandchildren, Joshua Decker (Mary Beth), Arikka Petrianni (Sal), Jacob Dellea and his fiancé Kaitlyn Mossman, Nicholas Dellea (Tara), Caitlin Nelson, Cody Nelson (Jessica) and Shelby Nelson along with James and Meghan Grahn. Also, great grandchildren, Michaela Decker, Jackson Petrianni, Lincoln Petrianni, Cassandra Nostrand, Joni and Orion Nelson. Her sister Mary Jane Blaauw (Robert) along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter Theresa Lynn Nelson, great grandsons, Hunter and Killian Decker, her daughter in law Theresa Nelson and brother William “Butch” DeGrosso Jr.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 18, from 4:00 to 6:00PM at Peck & Peck Funeral Homes, 8063 Route 22, Copake, NY.
Funeral services will be held graveside on Saturday at 11:00AM in the West Copake Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to your local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
