Yvonne DelGrande

Yvonne Brownell DelGrande, 86 of Hillsdale, NY passed peacefully on Wednesday October 18, 2017 at her residence after a long illness.

She was born on December 26, 1930 in Rochester, NY to Fred and Charlotte (Fromm) Brownell.

Mrs. DelGrande received her nursing degree from the Rochester Genesee Hospital in 1951 and began her career there as an emergency room nurse. From 1952 - 1954 she was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association of Brooklyn and from 1954 – 1955 by the Merchant Marine Hospital in Brighton Beach. After taking time off to raise her family she began working for Dr. Irma Waldo in Hillsdale as a pediatric nurse from 1977 – 1987.

Active in the community, she was a former Brownie Scout leader from 1966 – 1970 and a 4H leader in 1976. For many years she served as an instructor and coordinator of religious education at St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church in Copake Falls. She was also instrumental in forming the bereavement committee at the church to assist families during difficult times.

Along with Dr. Irma Waldo she founded the Roeliff Jansen Community Hospice in the late 1970’s and also began the Roeliff Jansen Chapter of Compassionate Friends.

On April 19, 1952 in Rochester, NY she married Dr. Patrick DelGrande.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Dr. Patrick DelGrande of Hillsdale; her children, Charles and wife Patricia DelGrande of Chicago, IL, Michael and Heather DelGrande of Philadelphia, PA, Patricia Del Grande of San Francisco, CA, Lori and Patrick Sterrett of Indianapolis, IN and Tom DelGrande of Cincinnati, OH. Also her grandchildren, Mary and Kathleen DelGrande of Chicago, IL, Zoe DelGrande of Philadelphia, PA, Kyle, Amy and Sophie Richards of San Francisco, CA, Michael, Travis and Zachary Sterrett of Indianapolis, IN, Alexandra and Javier DelGrande of Cincinnati, OH and Justin Johnson of Charlotte, NC.

She was pre deceased by her daughter Mary Jo DelGrande in 1976.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday October 25, 2017 at 10 AM from the Parish of Our Lady of Hope in Copake Falls with the Rev. George Brennan officiating. 

There are no calling hours.

Interment will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery.
