Salvatore Gattuso

Early Saturday morning, November 2^nd, 2019, Salvatore Gattuso, proud dad of four daughters passed away at the age of 90.   Sal was born on May 18^th, 1929 in Brooklyn NY, the first-born son of Charles and Marion Gattuso.   Following high school graduation from Manhattan NY, Salvatore joined the United States Marine Corps on April 20^th, 1948.  He proudly served four years as a Sargent and Aviation Instructor during the Korean War.   He was a Medal of Honour recipient and after his discharge on April 19^th1952, he married his first wife Agnes Walsh and together they raised their four daughters.   Despite his passion for aviation, Sal found his way to the NYC police department in 1957 and went on to serve 28 years as a patrolman.   He retired in 1984 and after marrying his late wife Virginia Grathwohl, built their home in Copake NY, to spend their retirement years.

Sal is survived by his daughters, Ellen Edge, Susan Barton, Mary Givens and Carol Thompson, 3 grandsons, 6 granddaughters, 11 great grandchildren and brothers Charles and Anthony Gattuso.  He also had 2 sisters Mary and Lucille, who sadly passed before him.

Sal had many interests, but his passions were his love of aviation and as witnessed by anyone who crossed his path long enough to be entertained by his art of story-telling.  It is in honor of his life well-lived that his daughters are inviting friends and family to join them as they wish him a safe flight for the last time. 

Friends are invited and may call at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22 Copake New York on Thursday from 2-4p and 6-8.

Funeral Services will be held at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home on Friday November 8^th at 11AM with the Rev. Kenneth Phesay officiating

Burial will follow at the Copake Cemetery.
