Stanfordville, NY – Edward P. Sweeney Jr. 93, passed away early on Sunday, October 7th, 2018 at The Thompson House in Rhinebeck, NY.
He was born on August 18, 1925 in Johnstown, NY the son of Edward P. and Gertrude (Borst) Sweeney Sr.
He was a World War II veteran from 1941-1946 and served in both the Army and Navy.
After he was Honorable Discharge he was a builder and mechanic. In 1986 he retired from H.O. Penn in Poughkeepsie NY. He was also a member of the Local 15C Operating Engineers. He also owned and operated GKS Radiator Repair for many years thereafter.
He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and a friend to many.
He enjoyed boating and camping with family and friends. His favorite pastime was many hours of conversing with those he loved.
Survivors include his children, Donna Parillo of Johnstown, NY; Thomas and his wife Dorothea Sweeney of Stanfordville, NY; Rosemary Sweeney of Poughkeepsie, NY; James Sweeney and his wife Christine of Poughkeepsie, NY; Donald Sweeney and his wife Joan of Millerton, NY; Edward P. and his wife Tosca Sweeney III of Kingston, NY; Brenda Sweeney of Elizaville, NY; Scott Sweeney of Poughkeepsie, NY; step daughter, Jean and her husband Mark Burlingame of Ancram, NY; son-in law Harry (Skip) and his wife Carolyn Wendover.
Twenty five grandchildren, Ricky, Ray, Ryan, Kara, Tonia, Carrie, Lloyd, Jonathan, Thomas, Dawn, Jeffrey, James, Justin, Tina, Jamie, Renee, Debra, Jeremy, Jennie, Jonah, Tyler, Trisha, Jessica, Tammy, Cody and Brooke. Many more numerous great grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Gail K. (Bird) Sweeney, a sister, Gladys Oare and a daughter, Joanne Wendover.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 at 11am at Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors. Fr. Kent Wilson will be officiating.
